This guy is obviously passionate about his business. I found his claim interesting on how beat making would be “the last industry to not be effected by the streaming world.” Having low quality content as a sample is justified by the notion that the consumer will come back to buy the full version. He made an important point on keeping up with the sounds that are current. A majority of listeners will want something that sounds like what is familiar to them. This is why people like Bruno Mars are so successful in integrating old styles and sounds with new beats and making it popular. Here are some opinions on the art of remixing: https://www.attackmagazine.com/features/long-read/the-art-of-the-remix/
This series was interesting and applicable to starting any small business online aside from online beat makers. Abe was very knowledgeable on email and influencer marketing. Here is a link to a successful YouTuber user of BeatStars that has a marketing series of videos to help online beat makers use BeatStars. He expands on what Abe talked about in the seminar.

I think a lot of what Mr. Batshon had to say about how to make money from creating beats could be applied to up-and-coming artists looking to kick-start their careers. Whether it was running yourself like a business or using YouTube to your advantage, his ideas represent the way digital music and online streaming changed how artists manage themselves. Everything is literally at our fingertips. For example, watching Batshon make a CTA in Google AdWords was fascinating. I had no idea how easy it was to make an ad like that and be able to spread it around YouTube. I found this link to a CDbaby blog that has even more links about how to promote your music on YouTube: http://diymusician.cdbaby.com/musician-guides/the-diy-musicians-complete-guide-to-youtube/
I really like how he gave it to the audience straight about how the industry works sometimes and how you don’t always get the recognition you deserve from putting so much work into something. He is giving current and up-and-coming artists the chance to make something out of their talents and not just be put “behind the scenes” as he mentioned in the first video. I also really liked how motivational he was and how much good advice and tips he had. Here’s a “how to” directional guide on how to use BeatStars

This is an interesting concept and from what Abe says very profitable. He mentioned that today beat makers are more at the forefront than ever before and he’s right based on people like metro boomin, who he mentioned, mike will made it, and madlib just to name a few who have carved their own fame through their beats. However as seen by artists like daft punk this isn’t simply exclusive to hip hop and we’ve seen producers become more and more popular as name brands.

WOW I bet when this guy had barely started BeatStars didn’t think he was going to have 350,000 subscribers following him (music producers) And that he makes millions of dollars annually because people don’t usually succeed and he probably had to work super hard to get where he is because he even quit his job to dedicate himself to BeatStars.

As Ogden Payne suggested, social media platforms are the active marketplace to promote your product (your music). Abe Batshon gave many shout-outs to Twitter. I’ve got to admit: after listening to this seminar, I instantly downloaded the Twitter app and will explore the possibilities.

I definitely agree with the speaker about the fact that lyrics don’t matter anymore. Its true lyrics don’t hold the same meaning anymore because in a way, everything has already been said. In our generation, beats really do have power in music. I’ve known songs that the lyrics are trash but everyone will still listen to it because it’s catchy and that’s just the truth of it. For example Gangnam Style I can honestly say bet that nobody knew what he was saying and it was the number one song in the world for the longest time. Another example would be the song Despacito although there are a lot of people that know Spanish, there are still a lot of people that don’t know Spanish or that can’t translate the Spanish lyrics including Justin Bieber himself. A lot of times the only thing a song needs is a good beat, but that’s something a lot of people already know. This video just opened my eyes on the hard work. The hard work artistry that goes into it. It’s more than artists such as Major Lazer, Calvin Harris, and Zedd there’s out there making beats for famous artists that defiantly deserve that credibility and royalties.

I love how Abe is very passionate about getting producers out of the “behind the scenes” aspect of the music industry. He’s sick and tired of the constant uncertainty that these producers go through when it comes to getting paid on time and getting the full amounts owed to them. He’s absolutely correct when he says that lyrics today are trash, and it’s basically all about the beats now. For example, Selena Gomez can’t sing to save her life, but because she always has good production and a catchy beat to go along with her generic lyrics, we allow her songs to top charts and keep her relevant.

I mean idk about others but I think this guy leaving his day time job just for beatstars is a big deal. For me this kinda triggered the topic of relevance. Because he had to use old beats and make them new to stay relevant. And I see that happening with today’s artist I see how they try to stay current even if they haven’t released something in a while the moment they decide to they have to go along with what’s hot to touch the current population of people. Bruno mars, Beyoncé, fergie, Ciara, nicki Minaj and Jason durulo do a great job with moving their music with the direction the vast majority of people are taking them. They also do a good job of taking something old and making it new again that’s why they are top of the charts always.

It was interesting to hear what batshon had to say about how to make money. The ad he created was easy and quick and i never knew it was that easy. just the fact that theres so much involved in this process is really interesting. I was reading an article on 7 tips on how to make beats easily; http://www.makebeatsforever.com/top-7-tips-on-how-to-sell-beats-online-successfully/
I found this to be very interesting because of what Mr. Batshon had to say. Technology is continually changing and we have access to so many resources. If you are dedicated enough it does not matter what software or program you use. If you make a good enough beat that is catchy then you could make millions. I currently have a friend who makes pretty good beats so I will share this article with him and see what he thinks.
Here’s a website of good software for producing music.

I believe that BeatStars is the future of music producing and artist collaboration. No longer are producers behind the scenes but can now upload their tracks for multiple artist to purchase. Without the the overhead of Labels producers can make decent money for their tracks and with the help of the social media platforms target a larger audience. Here’s an article on how BeatStars is shaping the future of the industry http://djbooth.net/news/entry/2016-05-04-manta-beat-stars-interview
This was really interesting hearing his point of view on beat making. Currently there are so many platforms in order to put original creations of not only beats, but music in general to be seen online. The ease of access in order to get the music out has really boomed and has made some individuals pretty wealthy in the process. It is not so much you have to make beats like Zedd, Major Lazer, Calvin Harris, etc. However, BeatStars is something I think up and coming artists or even people that are happy with their careers and just want to create beats and music on the side can really get out there and get noticed. There are so many opportunities and with beats you don’t even have to put your name in the Spotlight in order to make an income. I thought this is something good in all aspects of life whether you want to be included in the music industry 100% or just to make a side income.
I found this interesting because I actually watched this video back in the summer because I actually have been a member of BeatStars since December 2016. I have my own website, classickmusicstudios.com that uses the BeatStars “ProPage” they offer. Since school started I haven’t been able to spend time making a lot of beats or uploading more beats onto the site, otherwise, I’d probably be making a lot more money. Anyways, I love how Abe took an existing model and made it better. He continues to improve the site, throughout the year. Already, this year BeatStars producers have earned $1,000,000 as a total. I’m not sure if this was discussed in class (I was absent), but, that is phenomenal.
Check out one of the beat sites I was on back in 2005-2007, Abe took this idea and tweaked it a bunch and today you have Beatstars.

This was interesting because he shows how to sell your beats on Beatstars. I don’t if I would use it myself but it’s a great tool to look into with that in mind for the resource. He gives you the steps need to make your beats be heard online and to make it successful as well.
This is a very good thing to read when you are just getting started!! I’m personally not interested in pursuing a beat making career but it is always something that’s good to know is there!! I posted a link with how my favorite artist got started and you can pick out the similarities and differences 🙂 https://www.biography.com/people/chance-the-rapper-5152017
