Honestly, this was a little over my head. That’s a good thing though, I’m glad people smarter than I are striving to create better models for dealing with music and creative rights. I find the .bc file format pretty interesting. It seems like a helpful tool that will catch on. I’m looking forward to the future time when this project is amplified and more widespread. In my opinion, more often than not, Open-source methods are very creative and helpful tools for many people to collaborate! The company has a full one and one-half hour video explaining their primary goals and mission. Check it out! http://dotblockchainmusic.com/technology/
I had never heard of blockchain before this article, and I think I have a better understanding of it now. I think the video was helpful visually, and I agree that this is the future of the music industry. If block chain can help link musicians together and distribute the correct royalties to artists, I think that it is important to invest in this technology. I found an article that expands on why blockchain is beneficial to protecting artists and their songs, which will help lessen the commonality of disputes between copyrights and unfair use.

I agree, Kyron. This went way over my head because I am not as familiar with these music rights as the guy in the video. Except, of course, what we learned in class about all the rights and royalties. This Blockchain model may very well be the future of the music business. The music business is always changing and always getting better and this is just another great way for artists to protect their products. For people that need to read to understand, like me, her is a wiki page that more or less breaks it down even more than the video: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/blockchain.asp
Learning about a blockchain was completely new for me, but his circle chart helps to demonstrate everybody part for me and also the outside sources that help. There were also new terms I learned such as DDEX and CWR which I now know helps the world connect with sound recordings and compositions. Also if I’m correct there are 4 rings to this architecture of the block chain which is where it got a little complicated because there’s just so much going on but I suppose that is how everything comes together. It’s a lot of work and because it’s all chopped up is what makes it easier to run. I went to the actual page for Dot Blockchain Music http://dotblockchainmusic.com/ where you can see what is new as far as August of this year, and just know that the process is never really ever done, but only evolving into something much more.
So, after reading everyone else’s comments, I’m glad I wasn’t the only confused by this video initially. I’m still not completely sure I understand though. Beneath a layer of business buzzwords lies an idea that aims to shake up the music industry. By being able to update song metadata instantaneously, Chris Tse believes this should help better dispense music royalties? Something about innovation? I might have to read more about it. Wikipedia’s always my go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockchain
Being that I don’t already know much about the music business to begin with, learning about the block chain, was super confusing for me. Although I was confused about the topic it was cool to see what thr future of the business looks like. From what I saw, it seemed like the chain was super beneficial for the artist which is super awesome because I feel like the artist should always be protected.

I have never heard of a blockchain until I saw this video. It gives a new view that I didn’t know about and it excites me. The technology is advancing and more open source tools are everywhere for people to use. These buzzwords can change the music industry as we know it.
I will be honest with you and tell you that this video was really confusing and will take multiple views to truly understand what the man is talking it. I’m not super familiar with all the things he’s talking about except for what we briefly covered in class, and I’ve never heard of the blockchain before.
This article talks about how the blockchain works in Bitcoin.

Very interesting system. Clearly, this model is to direct to appropriate monies to be received where they need to: the artists! In theory, it should all work if the technology is is set up correctly. However, data encryptions of files & ISRC codes can get in the wrong hands if a hacker really wanted to screw with the music industry. Plus, seemingly endless storage information about music is documented across a number of platforms and organizations.
This article addresses the desire for blockchaining, but explains why it is NOT the best solution for the music industry.

The whole Block chain situation is a very complex idea. it has expanded into something called a “Music Ecosystem”, a much more complex network. The video does not too bad of a job of explaining and breaking down the information, in regards to each level of the music ecosystem. I found an article that talks about one of the ecosystem plots, called “How Spotify Can Become A Next Generation “Label” ” https://musicindustryblog.wordpress.com/category/ecosystems/
Good to know everyone else found that confusing. Technology is crazy and vital to our world today. Researching blockchain technology gave me a little bit better understanding on how it works. Here weighs the benefits of the blockchain and the impact it can potentially have on the music industry: https://techcrunch.com/2016/10/08/how-blockchain-can-change-the-music-industry/
I agree with Randy, this whole idea of block chaining is for the artists to receive the appropriate money when they are supposed to. Since technology keeps on advancing, everything is being set up online making it faster and easier to receive information. This also may make information prone to hackers. Attached is an article that explains how block chaining can change the music industry.

The idea of Blockchain is to help manage and keep record of financial transactions, and I agree with everyone when they say it could be a useful medium for getting the proper monies to whom they are due in the Music Industry. As a decentralized system, it is a helpful way to connect the industry, but if access were to get into the wrong hands, it could mean very bad things. Fortunately, Blockchain has been developed to be virtually incoruptible.

Oh wow this was alot of information to take in but this type of technology “blockchain”, I had never heard about it but now i feel confident and educated about this innovations. https://www.ibm.com/blockchain/what-is-blockchain.html

A video summary post as listed.
Chris covers how the dot BC open source project combines blockchain nodes, cloud gateways, semantic graph, and a new file format called .bc to form a decentralized interoperability framework for the music ecosystem.
This talk was originally presented by Chris Tse as part of a panel at Copyright and Technology 2017 in New York City on January 24, 2017.

This topic went over my head as well but, It was an interesting topic to learn about and answered a lot of questions through researching. https://medium.com/dotblockchainmusic/a-your-song-name-bc-file-is-these-six-things-and-many-more-77d557cd686d.
