  1. This article makes a really good argument for simplifying the music process in an ever-changing music ecosystem. It allows for a flexibility and conciseness necessary to ease the conflicts of interest that often arise in the music industry. I especially like how Woodworth (the author) addresses how rights management make it hard for any entity to have much autonomy with certain musical works. The implementation of a company that seeks to eliminate , or at least lessen the effects of, these issues would be difficult at best, however.

  2. I like the benefits the author lists in his conclusion. They showed how much freedom an artist could have when not beholden to publishing contracts. It would be neat to see the author’s idea become reality. In the six years since this article was published, the music industry has found ways of coping with declines in music sales, but the relationships between artist, management, and publisher are still as messy as before. Here’s a Forbes article about what the music industry should change for the better: https://www.forbes.com/sites/legalentertainment/2017/02/01/improvements-the-music-industry-needs-to-see-in-2017/#739711ee229c

  3. The article tells about how to structure a company in the current music industry. It can be beneficial and can ease any problems arises. However, the music industry is changing at a fast pace and the companies would need to adjust to the current time and trends.

  4. The music industry has always paid artists terribly, but hopefully that will change soon. This blog talks about different ways to change the structure of the traditional music industry and record labels, but it is hard to achieve when no one has created a successful and new music company. At the very least, it can start with changing the record label structure itself. This Forbes article talks about how there are some labels that are trying to be more “artist-driven” and how more musicians are using marketing tools, such as crowdfunding, instead of relying on a loan or advance from the label.

  5. In the comments section of the page, someone asks if any company is structured in the way that the author describes and he truthfully replies that he doesn’t know, but would love to know how it worked out if there are any. Even though no one has this structure yet, that doesn’t mean that someone might find this article and change their company. The lady is thankful and agrees with him that things should change. It may not be as easy to change the structure of a huge company but here is a link that provides information on how to at least start the process.
