  1. As Sony is such a large corporation, these allegations are very serious ascompany has, in the past, gotten into legal trouble due to CD Price Fixing. However, I think the problem has much to do with the bad blood between Sony and Rdio. It’s best that this issue is investigated. Sony has contracts with many large music streaming companies and it could affect a very large population.

  2. Sony has to prove that Rdio cost them millions because, as Danelle pointed out, it is super serious. It seems like it will easy, considering how Rdio seemed to try and keep everything on the down low. Seems as though Rdio’s executives declared bankruptcy to get out of debt, but they did it in such a sketchy way. They snuck around to get Pandora to buy them out so that they didn’t have to pay Sony. I think that Sony is in the right. Rdio should have paid what they owe.
This link broke it down to make what was going on a little easier to understand:

    1. Thanks a lot Sydnee, I was able to follow this article more than the initial one. I agree with everyone else, this is serious and pretty backhanded. I hate to see companies do these sorts of things, because it’s disingenuous. Also, it’s pretty hard to hide stuff like this. Eventually, there is light shed on the situation. I’m interested to see where the lawsuits go.

  3. Reading this article has got me to understand how this can have an impact on a large corporation like Sony. Learning things like antitrust is important to know when it comes to contracts and agreements. Just reading about how Rdio declared bankruptcy can show the sly side of the music industry.

  4. Owing money is such a common problem in the music industry (at least, that’s how it seems to me). It’s either companies owing other companies, artists owing their record company (and vice versa), or songwriters owing other songwriters. From an outsider’s perspective, it seems dumb and petty, but in reality it’s just business. Sometimes both sides may think they’re being screwed over by the other. I tried searching for any notable music lawsuits and found this: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/songs-on-trial-10-landmark-music-copyright-cases-20160608

  5. To be understand the article I went to this link to read more on Rdio and more of how they came to this bankruptcy and who they all owe now which is a lot of people. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/rdio-was-losing-2-million-840977 Honestly the whole situation just seems like a huge mess but in a way they’re the ones who dug the hole so deep. There comes a point in a failing business where you just need to press the breaks and accept the damage that is already done instead of creating more damage. I am not much of a business savvy person, so I was not aware 100% of everything that is taking place as far as lawsuits go, but I would be pissed too if I were apart of Sony. You can’t be taking jabs at a major company who have a lot going for them and then be deeper in the rocks as you’re making these accusations it’s like what did you think was going to happen when you poke a bear. Don’t know too much about this “Rdio” business other than the fact they know how to choose the wrong road.

  6. The music industry seems to have its fair share of lawsuits, disputes, and big companies eating up little ones. However, in this case, the smaller company (Rdio) tried to avoid legal trouble and declare their bankruptcy by selling their assets to Pandora. I found this article from Billboard going into deeper depth about Rdio’s bankruptcy, legal disputes, and the results of the case. It seems like they had problems with not only Sony, but their lender called Pulser too. When one company is in legal trouble, they can drag many others with them which is why it is important to be in good business, have good lawyers, and stay ahead of the game.

  7. It seems to me that Sony and Rdio are going back and forth and how one company screwed the other one over. They are acting like brother and sister. Rdio is sueing Sony for secretly working together with Universal Music Group, in the streaming market. Sony is sueing Rdio’s top three executives because they were lying about something before they declared bankruptcy. An anti-trust lawsuit is a big claim on Rdio’s behalf. If they can prove their point, then Sony is going to lose a lot of money.

    Here’s a refresher on anti-trust laws.

  8. Sony is one of the big dogs in the Music Industry a Multi-Billion Dollar corporation. This streaming stuff is only going to get worst as we move to more digital streaming platforms. The big difference in this musical revolution of the mid-2005 when digital music .began to sell and threaten physical sales. Is it was a feeding fight, money was still involved. It was different but labels were still getting their money, that is not the case with streaming. It is significantly less.

  9. I didn’t quite understand the article until I read Sydnee’s post to better clarify things. I think, as Cassie said, it is better to let the sleeping dog lie sometimes rather than kick it until it decides to bite. Sony and Rdio are going at each other and are going non stop all because of what? Something that will always be around? I would say they should quite while they’re ahead but its to late for that.

  10. Being a person versed in many different fields , this seems to be a problem money and money alone at the end of the day . Rdio is correct for making a lawsuit against Sony ,but do they have the money to fight a multibillion dollar company and succeed. Sony is making a lawsuit against Rdio as well . In the end I believe it would be best for Rdio to have waited to make a lawsuit until more financial stability was accumulated. Below is a link speaking about how money truly moves mountains in court houses many times. this link will explain why it will be pretty hard for Sony to lose .
