  1. This offers an insight into how to strategize when using social media as a musician. They give you links to different sites to give a better detail on how to use them well. While giving advise on what to do when using social media and how it can make an impact on your career.

  2. As the article and Ogden Payne suggest, social media advertising is key to getting the word out into the public about your band. Everywhere we walk, eat, study, read, etc., we see people on their phones doing what interests them. How many people also have their headphones plugged in? What are they listening to? Why not have them listen to promotions about your band and how to score downloadable content, exclusive offers and more? Social media and Freemium apps make it all possible.

The article below is only outdated by a year and a half (2016). Could they be right that social media is dead and email is the best way to reach out?

    1. This is what caught my eye as well. I’m glad Facebook is helping artists brand and promote themselves in the best way through their site. I could’ve used this years ago!! Also, it’s interesting to note that social media in general has been a big driver of success. I’ve discovered a lot of incredible music through Youtube, and Facebook advertisements. Here’s an article regarding the impact of social media on the music industry. https://socialmediaweek.org/blog/2015/08/social-mobile-changed-music/

  3. I find it interesting that they mention the music group Neon Indian in this page. i don’t doubt that Social Media was a catalyst for their success, as I personally discovered them on YouTube years ago. Social Media is so powerful nowadays when it comes to exposure. I’ve seen people’s careers flourish and they themselves become quite well-off because of Social Media.

  4. Social media is the ultimate advertising tool because it’s great for spreading information. News travels faster than ever; so if you’ve got something to share, it will make its way to those who want to hear it and even those who don’t. It’s grassroots at its finest; anyone can use it! Gone are the days where a band’s cheapest way to promote themselves was plastering flimsy flyers on every surface in town. It’s all thanks to MySpace, the earliest social networking site that bands and artists adopted to promote themselves and their music by uploading their songs straight to the site. This phenomenon even lead MySpace to start their own record label: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySpace_Records

  5. Social Media is a huge platform for getting information across and getting yourself out there. Millions of people use social media every day so why not use it to your advantage? I like how this site gave you links and info on websites as well as tips on how to find the right social media platform and when to use it and how to use to. I think this site is very useful because I feel like a lot of starting bands make the mistake of missed opportunities and misusage of social media and don’t use the sites to their full advantage. Here’s a pole on how many people use social media on average

  6. Nowadays social media is the bridge for artists to cross in order to blow up in terms of fame. By becoming viral an artist who previously wasn’t talked about much all of a sudden has a plethora of opportunities available to them. In order to capitalize on this they have to maintain that social status and this article is a good indicator of steps an artist should take to ensure that.

  7. Social media has changed the way artists or musicians reach greater success. It allows them to promote themselves through different platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Periscope, etc.) and remind fans about their website, upcoming shows, etc. This link talks about different techniques on how to use social media and provides examples of artists who used YouTube to get followers (Bieber and Arnel Pineda) and examples of good Tweets to engage fans (polling, etc.).

  8. Social media has become one of the most powerful tools that a musician or band can use in order to promote themselves. Everyone uses at least one social media site, so the greatest way a band can get exposure is to utilize these sites and have an account on each one. Times have changed and people don’t get their information from the radio or printed media, they use the internet.

  9. I agree, Shelby, social media is powerful. It has discovered many people for their talent. The most famous YouTube to red carpet, whether we would like to admit it or not, is Justin Bieber. Many other people have found adoring fans via social media and it has become one of the best ways to be found by big companies. It has been a fast and enormous change for anyone famous, new or old.

  10. Technology has advanced so much in the recent years, that social media has become a medium of communication. Social media is huge influence on people, and what ever is posted on social media will probably be seen. I found Randy’s article very interesting, in order to advertise on social media you must pay a price. Just like with any advertising. I was surprised to find that email is more effective way of marketing than social media. It is hard to believe that people will check their emails more often than they will social media. For every dollar you spend on e-mail marketing the return is $44.25. That is crazy! Here’s a link to a website that compares Email vs social media.

  11. In terms of Music and growing within it social media is very very powerful tool no matter what other people say but it can either benefit you or really really damage your career. An example of a career damaging was Chris Brown when he had the incident with Rihanna it was all over social media and his albums stopped selling which really ruined his career because social media published it everywhere. I attached a link with more information about the incident. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/269279/chris-brown-charged-with-assault-on-rihanna

  12. This gives you an insight as an artist on what to expect and where to go when trying to spread the word of being on social media. Social media can be used in so many different ways, but to use it for advertising and promoting not only your music, but the artist itself goes a long way. This has become the connection that artist need in order to connect to their fans in order to keep in touch, let them know they can relate to them, and to just give them more than just one experience.

  13. Social media is apart of our everyday lives and influences just about everyone now. Social Media can make or break someone’s career these days. With this being said I do believe it’s best for every artist to have someone manage their social media accounts and make sure whatever is being portrayed is positive. Along with managing their personal social media accounts, I recommend that a person also be in charge of monitoring what else is portrayed about on social media accounts that cannot be controlled by them or the artist, so at least they can denounce negative personas or justify them. Below is a link talking about the job I just mentioned.
